A trip is a great opportunity to spend time together. Here I share three travel games that allow us to practice Spanish as a family!
School holidays are approaching, and this is the time of year when you can take advantage of practicing Spanish at every opportunity. A trip is a great opportunity to do so, although you can also take them at any other time. They're so fun that your child will ask to do them again and again.
As I mentioned in a previous post, a few weeks ago we traveled to Washington DC. The trip took a little over 3 hours due to a couple of stops along the way. Although my children are allowed to use their tablets for a limited time (especially if the trip is long), we try to make the most of the time to do something together, something that involves everyone, and that's group games.
Our favorite games are fun memory games, so our top two picks on this list are by Luis Pescetti, a renowned Argentine author and writer who has published more than 27 books of literature for children and adults and composed countless children's songs, including various games and activities.
1.- At the bottom of the sea
A song that stimulates concentration, memory, and even imagination, because you can change the sequence or objects to make it different each time.
2.- White, black, bye
Aside from stimulating concentration, it also requires a lot of attention and logic from the players. Another of our favorites.
3.- Tutti Frutti
This is a word game, but it requires paper and pencil. Besides training your memory, it's also very useful for increasing your vocabulary:
• A table with columns and rows is printed or drawn.
• In the first row, the Category titles are written, starting with the Letter, and the rest can vary, an example of a category is object, fruit, animals, city, color, etc.
• Each player has a copy of the sheet.
• A letter is said and everyone begins to fill out the sheet by writing each category with words that begin with that letter.
• When the row is finished, the first person to finish says the word “Enough!” and everyone has to stop writing.
• The player says their words out loud and if someone else wrote the same word, it counts as 5 points, if it is a unique word, 10 points are obtained and no points if the word is invalid.
• At the end, the entire column of scores is added up and the winner is the one who obtains the highest score.
