The good parent-teacher relationship

Relación padres-profesor
The day has arrived! The first day back to school, the day many parents and "some" children await. And even though my children say they don't want to go back to school yet, you can already see their excitement about seeing their friends, meeting other children, and, above all, meeting their teachers.

Before my children started school, I didn't fully understand the concerns many parents had about teachers. Now, two years later, I see that it's a very important part of a child's success in school. Feeling comfortable with the teacher is the key to our children's success.

Relación padre-profesorAnd what can we do as parents to build a good relationship with teachers? It's not just about praising them for being good educators or criticizing them if we don't like a certain attitude or method they use. We first have to support them and then see the results of the mutual work between parent and teacher.

1. Constant communication with teachers

The fact of not receiving notes from the teacher does not always mean that our children are doing well in school and that there is no problem, therefore I will wait for the teacher to contact me.

Teachers always have a lot to do and they have not one but several students, so it is up to us.
Parents ask them, write to them or call them to find out how to help or simply to find out how our children are doing in school.

2. Read the calendar daily or review all the papers that the teacher or school sends home.

We can't let our children remind us, our parents, about a project that's due the next day!

3. Attend teachers' conferences with questions written down.

This way we don't forget anything we have pending, as well as writing down what we can do for our children.

4. Keep a monthly calendar and write down all important projects and tasks, so that no one is
I forgot to have it ready in advance.

These are just some of the things we can do to help our children. I know it can be difficult sometimes when one
has to work outside the home, but precisely for this reason, the use of a calendar allows for support from a husband or wife in case one of the parents cannot help.

This often helps to cultivate and maintain a good relationship with teachers. Sometimes things don't go as planned.
They work no matter how hard you try, but it's worth the effort before taking the next step.

Could you share something that you as a parent know helps a lot with your children's performance in school?
positive or negative anecdote with your children's teachers?

  1. Yes, at my children's school there were individual meetings where you as a parent could expand your questions with the teacher in charge of the grade.
