Koziars Christmas Village, the magic of experiencing Christmas

A few years ago, when my oldest son was little, someone told us about Koziar's Christmas Village, a Christmas village in Bernville, PA very close to Reading, almost an hour and a half from Philadelphia.

The place seemed a bit far away since we had to go at night to appreciate the lights, but because of all the good reviews, we got curious and decided to go. That first time was nine years ago. My oldest son was barely a year old, and since then, it's become our favorite place, our holiday tradition. My kids have taken pictures with the same Santa year after year, until last year, when they no longer thought it was cool to take a picture either on Santa's lap or next to him :).

Koziars Christmas Village is strategically located in a valley that allows you to appreciate the more than one million lights from a distance, so I suggest you prepare your cameras and have them ready before arriving at the place because the view is wonderful!

As the story goes, this was an ordinary house, the owners were the Koziar family and the head of the family William M. Koziars began to decorate his house in 1948 just for his wife and four children, but each time he added more lights and new ornaments that began to attract the attention of neighbors and those who passed by the place.

Next to the villa is a small lake, which Mr. Koziar also began decorating with lights, while adding and changing designs and ornaments, until one day they decided to allow entry to visitors who couldn't help but stop to admire the beauty of the place.

Many years have passed, the village has grown considerably, and today visitors are not only local, but travel from all over to visit this village, which has received the Award of Excellence, becoming one of the 10 largest tourist attractions in Pennsylvania.

If you decide to visit Koziar's Christmas Village, I recommend the following:

  • You must travel by private vehicle because there is no public transportation, although there are some tours or private services that offer to take you there.
  •  You have to take the weather into account and wear appropriate clothing because everything is outdoors. Only the gift shops, Santa's headquarters, and the places selling hot drinks can be considered shelters to warm up for a few minutes before heading out to continue the walk.
  •  Touring the village generally takes no more than two hours.
  •  There are no restaurants on site so it is recommended to arrive before or after dinner time.
  •  The days around Christmas are the busiest, so traffic must be taken into account. These days, especially on weekends, are particularly congested on the roads leading into the town. Last time, we had to take an alternative route to get there faster.
