Slow Cooker Chicken with Soy Sauce

Disclaimer: I received a Set'n Forget QT Programmable Slow Cooker from Hamilton Beach, which I used to make this recipe. No monetary compensation is provided, and all writing and opinions in this post are my own.

I will start by giving a little history because the truth is that after trying this incredible  Set 'n Forget® 6 Qt. Programmable Slow Cooker, from Hamilton Beach, I wonder what comes next?

I inherited my first slow cooker from my mother-in-law about 10 years ago, and although I was delighted with this one because it was the first and also very useful for me, I decided that I wanted one that was a little more modern, with better presence and capacity, so I got my second slow cooker, and when I thought that would be enough for a while, now that I have been able to try the Set 'n Forget® 6 Qt. Programmable Slow CookerI am really fascinated, so much so that I had to save the previous one and have decided to use this last one during the winter, which is when I cook the most with the slow cooler.

What are the functions and features of this new slow cooker that have made it my favorite?

  1. It's programmable! You can set the cooking time and intensity. Once the set time is reached, the cooker automatically switches to "warm," keeping the food at an ideal temperature until you turn it off, ready to serve, without the risk of overcooking or cooling the food.
  2. The pot has locks on both sides, securing the lid tightly and keeping it sealed. I love it because, in addition to cooking meats thoroughly, it doesn't leave the whole house smelling like food.
  3. It includes a probe, a thermometer that can be used when you want to reach certain temperatures in foods, meats for example, and can be programmed so that the pot stops cooking when it reaches the desired temperature.

This week I tried two recipes with my new slow cooker, but today I'm only sharing one; I'll save the other for a future post.

This first recipe is super easy to prepare and the ingredients are few, a friend shared it, and although the name said Spanish Rice, the ingredients are almost the same as those my mother used to prepare at home and we called it "Pollo al sillao", except for the cinnamon, an ingredient that we generally use for desserts in Peru, but when used in this recipe it gave it a very aromatic flavor.

Chicken in Soy Sauce

pollo al sillao en olla de cocción lenta

8 chicken thighs, with or without skin

2 tsp oil

1/2 cup red wine vinegar

2/3 soy sauce

1 tsp. garlic powder

3 or 4 cinnamon sticks

  • First, brown the chicken pieces in a pan for a few minutes until golden brown, then transfer them to the slow cooker, to which we add a little cooking spray.
  • Separately, combine the vinegar, soy sauce, and garlic in a cup or bowl. Do not add salt because the soy sauce is enough.
  • This mixture is poured over the chicken.
  • We let it cook on low for 4 or 5 hours.
  • You can accompany it with garden rice like I did or with white or yellow rice.

My favorite fall/winter dish is definitely anything with fresh pumpkin. Make sure it's freshly made. My favorite is pumpkin pie/flan. Thank you so much for the chance to win such a great giveaway.

  2. I love broths and soups, sanchochos, stews, and creamed soups; slow cookers are super useful and versatile. I love them for pork or ribs because they come out super tender and juicy.

  3. My family loves to enjoy this time of year, especially because of the variety of flavors and different dishes I prepare for them every day. I'm always looking for different ideas, and above all, I love your recipes that you give us every day. Thank you so much for the giveaway.

  4. I love cooking and I would love to have this lovely pot so I can make my delicious tongue in sweet and sour sauce, haha, it's delicious... thanks for the giveaway.

  5. Thanks for the giveaway, and the recipe looks delicious. I love making briskets, baked pork ribs, and soups, which are a must.
